Canal Boating (self-drive)

canal boatsCanal and river holidays are fun, yet relaxing. This is a great way to holiday with family or friends. Discover the soul of the country – explore historical treasures – encounter the lifestyles of those living by the waterways.

Barging is a holiday of contrasts, taken at a slow pace. Explore the variety of city, town, village, and country. Every bend brings forth new delights, every mile a new feature.

These holidays are for relaxation and unwinding. Stop when you want – tie up for walk through a village, take a bicycle ride, or visit historic sites.

operating the lockCruising your own vessel is not difficult, and operating the locks does not require super-human strength, some locks even have ‘Lock-keepers’ to assist and the vast majority of routes do not require formal handling and navigation training.

Before you embark you are given an introduction on handling your vessel, its features and basic maintenance and the rules of navigating the waterways. All the boat operators that we represent maintain modern fleets.

Some short breaks are available, but generally boat hire is for one, two or three weeks.

The choice of routes ranges from waterways in England, Ireland, France, Holland, Germany, Belgium and Italy.

As for the style of vessel there are a variety of modern river-cruisers as well as traditionally-styled narrowboats (for some of the waterways in England). Vessels can range in capacity from two to twelve.

Particular travel options that we proudly represent for Canal Boating include:

  • Black Prince Narrowboat Holidays in the UK
  • Le Boat (Connoisseur, Crown Blue Line, Emerald Star)
  • Locaboat - Holidays on a Penichette

We can also assist with arrangements pre and post cruise e.g. accommodation, rail tickets, car hire.
